How to sign out of iCloud remotely

If you can't turn off "Find My iPhone" directly on your device, you can still remove it. Here are two ways:

Sign out on another Apple device

If you are signed into iCloud with your new iPhone or an iPad, you can erase your device using the "Find my" app

If you don't have another Apple device, you can erase your device from icloud.com.

Option 1. Erase & remove using "Find my" App from another Apple device

If you are signed into iCloud with your new iPhone or an iPad, you can erase your device using the "Find my" app

  1. Go to apps, and open the "Find My" app
  2. Under devices, tap on the device you are trying to remove
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap "Erase"

    This will permanently remove your data — make sure you've backed up your device.

  4. After erasing, tap "Remove"

    Note: If you see a popup that says "Cannot Remove iPhone. Prepare This Device for Repair or Trade In?" this means your device is still on. Make sure it's turned off before you hit "Remove"

Option 2. Erase & remove using icloud.com

If you don't have another Apple device, you can erase your device icloud.com.

  1. Go to icloud.com

    Log in to your account using your Apple ID.

  2. Navigate to the menu

    This should be on the top right corner. Select "Find My" from the menu of apps.

  3. Select the device under "Your Devices" & tap "Remove"

    This will permanently remove your data — make sure you've backed up your device.
